Alabama Emergency Medical Dispatch Program
In partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Office of EMS, the Alabama 9-1-1 Board has adopted the Alabama Emergency Medical Dispatch (ALEMD) Program. Like most other EMD programs, the ALEMD protocol is based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration National Standard Curriculum for EMD. It has been reviewed by the Alabama EMS Medical Director and subsequently adopted by the Alabama 9-1-1 Board. Also similar to other EMD programs, prerequisites include CPR and basic telecommunicator certifications. If anyone in your agency needs either of these certifications, please contact our office for information about board-sponsored training for both.
The program is voluntary and will be made available to all agencies within the State of Alabama that wish to participate in the program. The ALEMD Program will be rolled out in phases beginning with the credentialing of currently certified EMD instructors and practitioners followed by training of new instructors and personnel. Recertification will begin within two years.
There is no registration cost for the courses; the student’s agency is responsible for their travel, lodging, and meals. The Alabama 9-1-1 Board will provide all necessary materials for the completion of the course. Electronic as well as hardcopies of the program will be made available.
Inaugural instructor courses will be held in Montgomery in the office of the Alabama 9-1-1 Board in the month of April. Following the first series of courses, we will expand to host courses around the State. Each course is limited to 24 students; however, if you would like to learn more information about the program, we will allow up to twelve more seats for you to attend the first day of each of our April courses (i.e. April 16th or April 23rd or April 30th) to listen and learn about the program. Please note that attendance of the first day only of any of these three courses WILL NOT render a credentialed Emergency Medical Dispatch Instructor. Registration is required for any and all attendees.
A course flyer and registration form can be downloaded below. Return all completed paperwork to dana[at]al911board[dot]com.
